This week, You+Dallas pays tribute to the SMU football team by releasing a video shot during the Battle for the Iron Skillet. Anyone who views this video will have an understanding of how much fun game day can be on the SMU campus. Strong academics, team spirit, an energized fan and alumni base, and a winning football team all go together to create a wonderful collegiate experience.
Academically, SMU has risen to its highest ranking (#56) ever among national universities in the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges. Only UT Austin and Rice University rank higher in the state of Texas.
The point of this video was to highlight the unique relationship between Dallas and SMU. Dallas business leaders support SMU because SMU is producing top flight talent. Simply put, SMU is good for business.
We believe institutions of higher learning have a unique opportunity to “Be the Media” by combining the creativity and talent of its faculty, students and alumni with the power to communicate your message via the internet. If you want the top students, then communicate on their level. If your goal is to increase alumni participation rates, then create a way to connect them back to your school by giving your faculty, students and administration the tools to support and broadcast their initiatives.
There is a huge opportunity for colleges and universities to create a first mover advantage. Any takers?
